Rogain Series regulations 2025

Rogaining is a team-based orienteering competition, the aim of which is to collect the highest possible number of points within the time limit by passing checkpoints placed on the terrain.
The value of checkpoints varies – depending on the location of the checkpoint and the difficulty of access. The order of passing the checkpoints is free, meaning each team sets its own route. In rogain, it is not mandatory to pass a certain number of checkpoints – each team passes exactly as many kilometers and points as they like and can afford.

Stages of rogain series 2025:

Tartu Rogain – March 29
Vehendi Rogain – May 24
Võru Rogain – August 23
Palu Rogain – October 25

5.3 If you experience any problems with the registration environment or would like to submit later changes, please write to sekretariaat@seiklushunt.ee.

6. Non-participation and refund of participation fees

6.1 If the event is cancelled for reasons beyond the control of the organizer (Force Majeure), the participation fee will not be refunded.

6.2 If a registered competitor/team does not participate or withdraws from participation, the participation fee will not be refunded.

6.3 The participant is allowed to find a replacement or sell their participation to someone else.

6.4 By agreement with the organizer, it is possible to carry over participation to the next competition or next year.

6.5 Participation is only allowed to be carried over once and the organizer must be notified of the wish to carry participation over by e-mail sekretariaat@seiklushunt.ee no later than 9:00 am on the morning of the competition day; later requests will not be taken into account.

7. Timing and marking system

7.1 The SI (Sportident) electronic marking system is used to record the passage of a checkpoint (CP).

7.2 The SI card is attached to the wrist with a wristband, which the participant will receive with the starting materials. The use of the wristband is mandatory.

7.3 When using your own SI card, the wristband must be removed and replaced with the yellow wristband provided by the organizer. A rented SI card is attached with a blue wristband.

7.4 SI card with a non-removable wristband must be used by all team members.

7.5 In the family class, a child is allowed to go on the course without an SI card, but then the child’s name will not be reflected in the results. If you want your child’s name to be included in the results, the child must have a personal SI card. In the case of a small child, the SI card does not need to be attached to the wristband and can be carried by the parent.

7.6 In order for a team to receive points for visiting a checkpoint, all team members must make a mark with their SI card at the SI station of that checkpoint within a period not exceeding 60 seconds.

7.7 Since there are more than 30 checkpoints on the terrain, those taking more points will need an SI card with at least 50 memory slots. This means that SI cards with numbers 1–499,999 and 2,000,000–2,999,999 are not suitable.

7.8 At the finish station, the SI card records the time based on the last mark. This means that if the finish mark is taken multiple times, the competitor’s time will be based on the last mark taken.

7.9 The team’s finishing time is calculated based on the SI time of the last team member at the finish station.

8. Starting

8.1 Competition materials including rented SI cards can be obtained from the secretariat.

8.2 All SI cards, including rented SI cards, must be reset and checked upon entering the starting area. If the SI card is not reset, the result will be cancelled.

8.3 The cards are distributed in the starting area. The cards are rolled up and placed on the ground according to the number of team members (2, 3, 4 and 5 members).

8.4 Hiking class participants will receive their maps from the organizer under the starting arch.

8.5 Each team has one additional map for planning (except in the family class).

8.6 After receiving the maps, you may proceed to plan away from the start area (e.g. in your car), but you may not proceed to the track.

8.7 All participants must be at the starting area at least 10 minutes before the start.

8.8 When entering the starting area, the judges will check that all competitors have their SI card attached to their wrist, zeroed and checked. No result can be recorded without passing the control station! The participant is responsible for passing the control station properly. The control stations are usually in the hands of the judges, the zero stations are on stands a little away from the starting gate. The zero station erases all old notes from the SI card and the control station checks whether the SI card is clean and also activates the contactless function of the SI-air card.

8.9 The mass start for the course will take place from under the starting arch for the hiking and basic classes at 12:00 and for the family and cycling classes at 12:15.

9. Rules

9.1 CHECKPOINTS (CP)

– The goal of the competition is to collect the highest possible number of points within the time limit while moving across the terrain and passing checkpoints located on the terrain.

– The value of checkpoints varies depending on the difficulty and distance of the checkpoint. The point values depend on the course setters’s planning. They generally range from 2 to 7 points. The value is indicated by the first number of the checkpoint. For example, 21 gives 2 points and 57 gives 5 points.

– The number, selection and order of checkpoints to be passed are freely chosen by each team (selective orienteering).

– Participants in the hiking class must pass the checkpoints in the order specified by the organizers. Additional points may be earned, but then the result will be included in the “Open” course results.

9.2 ON THE TRACK

– The control time for main classes and hiking classes is 3 hours, for cycling and family classes it is 2.5 hours.

– Exceeding the time limit will result in a penalty of points: up to 1 minute late -1 point, additional -1 point for each minute started.

– Points taken after the control time will count.

– If the control time is exceeded by more than 30 minutes, the result will not be counted.

– Only the competition map provided by the organizers and only a magnetic compass and watch may be used as aids. The use of other navigation devices and programmable computing equipment is prohibited.

– From the start to the finish, all team members must wear their bib number in a visible place.

– All teams are required to cross the finish line, including teams that wish to withdraw from competition (if it is not possible to reach the finish line, the organizer must be notified immediately).

9.3 RESULTS

– Final ranking is determined by the total points collected, minus penalty points.

– In case of equal points, the team that finished earlier wins.

9.4 PROHIBITED AREAS

– Entry into restricted areas marked with a red line on the map and into outdoor areas and courtyards marked with olive green is prohibited. We respect the privacy of other people.

– It is prohibited to cross impassable fences, walls and impassable hedges marked on the map.

– Rogain is not an adventure sports competition or obstacle course, so climbing over high fences, walls, etc. is not necessary and should not be done. This could potentially be harmful to health and/or violate the interests of private owners.

– Crossing water bodies is permitted on certain stages. Please refer to the additional information/coursemaster description for the respective stage for adequate information.

10. Violation of rules and protests

10.1 If the team enters a restricted area set by the organizer, the team’s result will be canceled.

10.2 Entries into the restricted area and other violations recorded by fellow competitors and/or spectators must be presented in a reproducible form.

10.3 Protests regarding violations of the competition rules and explanations regarding the course can be submitted to the judges until 4:00 PM on the competition day.

11. Series overall standings

11.1 Series overall standings are calculated in all main classes and in bicycle class.

11.2 The score is based on the team name and in order to participate in the overall score, three important rules must be followed:
– The team name must be the same in all
rogain competitions.
– At least one of the team members must have participated in the previous rogain competition and under the same team name.
– The competition class must be the same in all rogaine competitions.

11.3 The winner of the series will be determined based on the ranking of the teams participating in the competitions.

11.4 Each team receives points according to the place achieved in its competition class, which are the basis for determining the overall winner of the Seiklushundi Rogain Series. The team that won first place receives 100 points and each subsequent team receives 90% of the points of the previous place (points are rounded to a whole number).
For example. In the MN class, the team that won first place receives 100 points, second place 90 points, third place 81 points, fourth place 73 points, etc.

11.5 The series ranking is formed by the sum of the results of the three best rogaines.

11.6 In the event of equal points, the final result will be determined by the result of the last stage.

12. Awarding

15.1 The award ceremony will take place on site at the competition center.

12.2 The top three teams in all main classes will be awarded at the competition.

12.3 In the bicycle class, only first place will be awarded.

12.4 Winners in the family and hiking classes will not be awarded, but raffle prizes will be drawn among all teams that participated in the class (individual participants in the hiking class). The raffle prizes will be drawn when the participants have been sent to the course and the prizes will be collected at the finish line.

12.5 In the series, the best in each competition class (except for the family and hiking classes) will be awarded.

12.6 The final award ceremony for the series will take place immediately after the award ceremony for the last stage in the last competition.

12.7 Prizes will not be awarded retrospectively.

13. Rights of the organizer

13.1 The organizer has the right to make changes to these guidelines as necessary.

13.2 The organizer has the right to disqualify participants in the finish protocol who do not follow the event instructions or competition rules.

13.3 The organizer has the right to use photos and video recordings taken by the organizer at the event for marketing purposes.

13.4 Issues not covered in the guidelines will be resolved by the Organizing Committee. The Organizing Committee consists of the competition organizer, the timekeeper and the chief referee.

By registering and paying the entry fee, the participant:

  • Agrees to these guidelines and the terms and conditions established by the organizer;
  • Agrees that his/her personal data will be used in accordance with Estonian laws and regulations;
  • Makes sure that he/she is sufficiently trained and healthy to participate in a sporting event.
