EST: KP15. Tartu Reaalkooli ilmajaam

Dorpater Realschule (Tartu Science School) was a German-speaking educational institution, founded based on the local provincial school, Dorpater Kreisschule, in 1877. Ten years later, the school switched to Russian, which remained its language of instruction until 1918. The school was considered prestigious – for example, graduates had the right to be admitted to Riga Polytechnicum without entrance exams. The school was located on the corner of Riia and Kalevi streets, in a building that later housed the Tartu Girls’ Gymnasium. The school had a weather station where observations were conducted; the observation data were published in print from 1903 to 1907. The weather data were also published in the daily newspaper Postimees, which made the weather station well known among the residents of Tartu.
