EST: KP19. Botaanikaaed 

1803. aastal asutatud Tartu Ülikooli botaanikaaed on tänapäevani järjepidevalt samas kohas tegutsenud. Aed on rajatud kunagise Tartu linnamüüri nurgale, Ulrica Eleonora bastioni kohale. 

Saksa füüsik ja meteoroloog Ludwig Friedrich Kämtz (11.01.1801–20.12.1867) oli Tartu Ülikooli füüsikaprofessor aastatel 1841–1865 ning õpetas Tartu Ülikoolis meteoroloogiat ja klimatoloogiat. Kämtz alustas Tartu botaanikaaias korrapäraseid meteoroloogilisi vaatlusi, mis toimusid aastatel 1842–1854 iga tunni järel kella 7–23. Ta mõõtis õhurõhku, -temperatuuri, tuule suunda ja tugevust. Et vaatlustesse jääks võimalikult vähe lünki, kandis Kämtz alati taskus märkmikku lisaandmete tarvis.

ENG: CP19. Botanical garden 

The Botanical Garden of the University of Tartu, founded in 1803, has operated continuously in the same location. The garden was established at the corner of the Tartu city wall, the site of the former bastion called Ulrica Eleonora.  

Ludwig Friedrich Kämtz (11 January 1801 – 20 December 1867), a German physicist and meteorologist, was Professor of Physics at the University of Tartu from 1841 to 1865 and taught meteorology and climatology at the University of Tartu. From 1842 to 1854, Kämtz conducted regular hourly meteorological observations in the botanical garden from 7:00 to 23:00. He measured air pressure, air temperature, and wind direction and strength. To ensure there were as few gaps as possible in his observations, he always had a notebook in his pocket to record additional information.
