Orienteerumiskuu „220 aastat loodusteaduste õpetamist ülikoolis“

Oktoober on ülikoolis orienteerumiskuu. Tänavu on see pühendatud loodus- ja täppisteadustele, sest nende õpetamise algusest möödub 220 aastat. Nimelt hakati loodus- ja täppisteaduste aineid järjepidevalt õpetama 1802. aastal keiserliku ülikoolina taasavatud Tartu Ülikoolis.

Nüüdse loodus- ja täppisteaduste valdkonnaga on tihedalt seotud Tartu Ülikooli loodusmuuseum ja botaanikaaed, mis avati samuti 220 aastat tagasi. Loodusmuuseumi ekspositsioonides kohtuvad teadus, ajalugu ja põnevad lood ning nendega on üles kasvanud hulk loodushuviliste põlvkondi. See on Eesti vanim muuseum, millele pandi alus loodusteaduste professuuri juurde kuuluva looduslookabineti asutamisega.

Ülikooli orienteerumisrada viibki valdkonna ajaloo ja arenguga seotud paikadesse.

Rada on jõukohane kõigile – kontrollpunkte võib läbida meelepärases järjekorras ja osade kaupa ning aega ei võeta. 

Kuidas orienteerumine välja näeb? 

• Prindi kaart või võta see ülikooli peahoone (Ülikooli 18), Delta keskuse õppe- ja teadushoone (Narva mnt 18), Biomeedikumi (Ravila 19), TÜ raamatukogu (W. Struve 1) või Vanemuise 46 õppehoone valvelauast. Soovi korral saad kaardi ka nutitelefoni laadida. 
• Enne rajale minekut tutvu leppemärkide süsteemiga. 
• Kontrollpunkti jõudes pildista seal olevat ruutkoodi. Selleks laadi oma telefoni ruutkoodi (QR-koodi) lugemise rakendus või kontrolli, kas telefonikaameral on vajalik funktsioon olemas. 
• Rada kulgeb majade vahel, tänavatel, rohealadel jm avalikus ruumis. Ole liikluses ettevaatlik! Pane tähele, et mitmest rajal ette tulevast objektist (nt kõrged aiad, müürid, lillepeenrad või hekid) ei tohi otse üle minna. Samuti on keelatud siseneda eramajade või asutuste hoovidesse, kui need on tähistatud vastava leppemärgiga. Keeldu tähistavad märgid tunned kaardil ära jämeda musta joone (aed, müür) ning samblarohelise värvuse järgi. 

Kes võidab? 

See on kogu ülikoolipere tervisespordiüritus, mille lõpus loositakse kõigi osalenute vahel välja ka hulk toredaid meeneid. Selleks, et loosiõnn võiks naeratada just sulle, anna meile teada, et käisid orienteerumas.

Orienteering month “220 years of teaching natural sciences at the university”

October is orienteering month at the university. This year, it is dedicated to natural and exact sciences, as we are celebrating 220 years from the start of teaching them in Tartu. The continuous teaching of the subjects of natural and exact sciences started in 1802, when the University of Tartu reopened as an imperial university.

The current Faculty of Science and Technology is closely related to the University of Tartu Natural History Museum and Botanical Garden, which were also founded 220 years ago. The exhibits of the natural history museum are the meeting point of science, history and fascinating stories, and have brought up generations of nature lovers. It is the oldest museum in Estonia and was founded with the establishment of the natural history cabinet as part of the professorship of natural sciences.

The university’s orienteering course takes you to places related to the history and development of the field.

The course is feasible for everyone – checkpoints can be passed in order of your convenience and in parts and no time will be taken. Completing the entire course at a leisurely pace should take approximately an hour and a half.

How to start orienteering?

• Print the map or or get it from the front desk of the main building (Ülikooli 18), the Delta academic and research building (Narva 18), Biomedicum (Ravila 19), the university library (W. Struve 1) or the academic building at Vanemuise 46. You can also download the map to your smartphone.
• Before you start, make sure you know the map symbols.
• In total, there are 20 checkpoints, which you may take in any order.
• When you arrive at a checkpoint, scan the QR code with your phone. For that, install a QR code reader app on your phone or check whether your phone camera already has that function.
• The course runs between buildings, on streets, in green areas and in other public places. Be careful in traffic! Please note that there are several objects on the course that you are not allowed to cross, such as fences, walls, flowerbeds or hedges. Similarly, do not enter private yards that are marked respectively. On the map, “no entry” areas are marked by the thick black line (fence, wall) and moss green colour.

The goal is to enjoy exercise

The goal is not to complete the course the fastest but to enjoy physical exercise outdoors. Everybody who comes orienteering is the winner already! This is a recreational sports event for the whole university community. At the end of the event, several nice gifts will be raffled among all registered participants.
